Short Construction delivered the award-winning restoration of Peaks Retreat, a Grade II listed former Old Post Office, in collaboration with Parti Architects.

Recognised in the ‘Positive Addition’ category at the Architects’ Journal Retrofit & Reuse Awards 2025, the project transformed the historic building into a nature-sensitive luxury retreat. Designed to harmonise with its riverside setting, the development blends heritage architecture with modern comfort, featuring low whole-life carbon emissions and a thoughtful response to the surrounding landscape.

The retreat offers guests a high-end experience with exceptional integrated amenities including a heated indoor pool, yoga studio, cinema room, Swedish hot tub, and outdoor leisure spaces. The property sleeps up to 30 guests across 10 ensuite bedrooms and features Europe’s first known use of yakisugi, a Japanese timber charring technique.
